Why should we sing? Singing lifts the heart, calms the soul and helps to bring focus to our faith. It keeps our mind agile, reduces stress and there is compelling evidence of physical benefits. And... when we sing with other people, it creates a connection. The Chancel Choir lives this philosophy and leads the 11:00 traditional service in singing hymns, psalms, anthems and other service music; a valuable part of our worship.
This dedicated group gathers each week to share their love of singing and to encourage congregational participation. The Chancel Choir ministry is open to youth and adults.
Nancy Franck directs the Chancel Choir. Ferne Haghiri, a master at playing our 3-manual Aeolian Skinner pipe organ, provides accompaniment at the 11:00 service.

Welcome New Members
We are excited to welcome our newest member, Monica Miyashita (pronounced Mee-ahsh-tah), to the soprano section.
Monica is John & Betty Raber's daughter. She and her husband Mark, son Max (age 5), and their three cats, Grizabella, Agatha, and Daisy, reside in Orrville. Monica teaches history and law at Wayne College, and she is also an attorney, although she has not practiced law since her daughter Lydia was diagnosed with leukemia in August 2008. Her husband, Mark, works at Smuckers, and their son Max is a student at St. Mary's. In addition to her teaching, Monica runs two foundations in her daughter's memory. One foundation, Lydia's Hope, focuses on raising awareness about pediatric cancer and will be hosting a triathlon in September 2011; the other foundation, Lydia's Promise, focuses on supporting foster children and orphans. Monica is a 1994 graduate of Hiram College earning a bachelor's degree in history and philosophy, and earned a law degree from West Virginia University in 1998. At Hiram, she was the recipient of a music scholarship and studied voice with Dr. Justin Kelly. She has been involved with the Orrville Community Chorus and its annual Messiah Production since she moved to the area in 2000. In her spare time, Monica enjoys yoga, travel, reading, watercolours, needlework, and of course, singing. |
