{"id":5359,"date":"2016-11-04T12:15:18","date_gmt":"2016-11-04T16:15:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.woosterumc.org\/?p=5359"},"modified":"2016-11-04T12:15:18","modified_gmt":"2016-11-04T16:15:18","slug":"give-thanks-tomorrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/woosterumc.org\/new\/give-thanks-tomorrow\/","title":{"rendered":"Give Thanks for Tomorrow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u201cGive Thanks for Tomorrow\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">What gift can we bring,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">what present, what token?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">What words can convey it,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">the joy of this day?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">When grateful we come,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">remembering, rejoicing,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">what song can we offer<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">in honor and praise?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s always this year\u201d said one of the banners which hung over Progressive Field last Tuesday night as the Chicago Cubs did battle with our beloved Cleveland Indians to put an end to each team\u2019s long drought of championships, the Indians since 1948, 68 long years ago, and the Cubs since 1908, since William Sianis, owner of the Billy Goat Tavern, angry at the presence of an animal in his fine establishment, swore that \u201cthen Cubs, they ain\u2019t gonna win no more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Well, we know how that turned out, don\u2019t we? And yet we still have faith, faith that tomorrow will brighter, that next year will be our year, that even in the face of the doom and gloom of a late-night, extra-inning loss, next year will certainly be our year, or the next, or the next!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGive thanks for tomorrow,\u201d Jane Marshall says in the third verse of the hymn which serves as the centerpiece for our Stewardship Campaign this year, a campaign that concludes next Sunday with the presentation of our Estimate of Giving cards for 2017 during morning services of worship and the joy of the Feast of Thanks at 4:30 in Wesley Hall.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Give thanks for tomorrow,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">full of surprises,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">for knowing whatever<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">tomorrow may bring,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">the Word is our promise<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">always, forever;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">we rest in God\u2019s keeping<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">and live in God\u2019s love.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I hope that you\u2019ll join me, and those among us who have already turned in our Estimates, in giving thanks for a God who holds past, present, and future firmly in the divine arms, gently in the divine hands, just as God holds our saints, our beloved ones, just as God holds us.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cGive Thanks for Tomorrow\u201d What gift can we bring, what present, what token?
